I’ve been a 20 year vet of the PC and the Windows Environment. I’m a happy windows user as well, as a matter of fact I have no problem admitting that in 1994 when I started my first tech consulting firm, I would not have been able to do it without a PC and Windows operating system.
I will also freely admit that I’ve been waiting for more than 10 years for a true “Browser Based” computing environment. We have been talking about a less operating system dependent world for a long time. As bandwidth, and storage space continue to expand, more browser based, or “cloud based” applications are making it possible for old client / server guys like me to move to the next level. I’m going willingly, just trying to make some sense out of some of the differences between the platforms.
I can and will go into the decision making process I’ve been going through over this last year, but first I need help. I’ve been in transition now for a week, I fired up a Mac-mini last week, and I’m working my way through it. I haven’t gone all the way over to the Mac, I still have my Dell Optiplex running, and a handful of windows based apps that haven’t made the move to the Mac yet. Email being the biggest app that hasn’t moved yet. That is a post all it’s own.
More to come…
